Ski Montana: Bear Paw Ski Bowl

Bear Paw Ski Bowl in northern Montana.

Bear Paw Ski Bowl is a little ski hill in the Rocky Mountains, close to Havre, Montana.

The top elevation is 5,280 feet and the base sits at 4,500 feet above sea level for an overall drop of 900 feet.

According to the resort, there are 24 runs at the ski hill, which are rated as 25% easy, 25% more difficult and 50% advanced.

It’s the perfect place for families, with an unintimidating size and friendly ski school.

Big kids can try out the area´s half pipe and black diamond terrain, while the kids have fun all day on the greens and blues. Meeting up at the end of the day is easy, with the one centralized base.

The 80 skiable acres at Bear Paw are serviced by one double chair lift and one rope tow.

There are no ski or board rental shops at the mountain, so start your trip by stopping by a shop like Master Sports in Havre. Their prices are more than reasonable, with adult ski packages starting at $20 and snowboard packages for as little as $27 daily.

Bear Paw Ski Bowl is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays. The season depends on the snow, but generally runs from January to April.

Off the slopes, the area has lots of cross-country ski and snowmobile trails on the Chippewa Cree Recreation Area. The area is on the nearby Rocky Boy Indian Reservation. Contact them for permit information. (406) 395-4478.

To reach this ski area in northern Montana, head south from Havre about 30 miles using Beaver Creek Road and Montana Highway 234.
