Ski Montana at Lost Trail Powder Mountain

Lost Trail Powder Mountain is a quiet resort off the beaten path in the Montana Rockies. Known for its layers or fresh powder and zero wait time at the lifts, this resort is a mountain-lovers paradise.

Prepare yourself for tons of powder at Lost Trail Powder Mountain!

Atop the continental divide, right on the border with Idaho and Montana, you’ll find this local’s secret. The family-owned ski area is still largely undiscovered and is open Thursday through Sunday, with additional days during holiday weekends (Winter Break, Martin Luther King Day, and President’s Day).

The season usually begins in December, but is dictated by the year’s snowfall. Ski lifts run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The lodge, rental shop, and ski school all open at 9:00 a.m.

Hamilton and Missoula, Montana are the closest towns, with plenty of Montana accommodations and restaurants.

Lost Trail Mountain has 45 marked runs and plenty more off-piste powder stashes to bury your skis in. The breakdown is 20% beginner, 60% intermediate and 20% expert.

If you’ve never skied or boarded before (or if it’s been a while), sign up for lessons at the Lost Trail Powder Ski & Board School. Their trained professionals will get you up and turning in no time.

Lost Trail also has a rental shop for those that forgot their poles, or need everything to get going.

Eight lifts, five doubles and three surface tows, service the mountain, which starts at 6,400 feet and peaks at 8.200 feet. Despite its relatively low elevation, it receives over 300 inches of dry, fluffy powder every year!

Lost Trail Powder Mountain is 90 miles south of Missoula on US Highway 93. Fly to Missoula on Delta, Horizon Air or Northwest airlines. Car rentals are available to make it the rest of the way.

The name of the mountain is the best advertisement. Plan your next powder vacation here before everyone else discovers Lost Powder Trail Mountain!
