Among all the great Montana ski resorts, Blacktail Mountain is still probably one of the best local secrets. Blacktail resort almost never sees liftlines or crowds, but with its north-facing slopes, it gets great, dry powder snow that lasts and lasts.

Near Blacktail, you’ll find cozy Montana hotels and lodges, and from the mountain you’ll be able to see Flathead Lake, the largest body of fresh water west of the Mississippi.

Blacktail ski resort has a total of 26 trails, with 15 percent beginner, 70 percent intermediate and 15 percent expert terrain. It has four lifts, including a triple, 2 doubles, and one tow. Blacktail Ski Resort has a base at 5236 ft. with a peak reaching 6676 ft. Blacktail Ski Resort receives an average of 250″ of snow per year.

You’ll find Blacktail Mountain Ski Area off Highway 93, 45 minutes from Kalispell and 2 hours north of Missoula, near Lakeside on Blacktail Mountain Road. Fly Delta/SkyWest,  United Airlines/SkyWest, Horizon Air, Northwest Airlines, to Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell. You can also ride the rails on Amtrak to Whitefish from east and west.
