Bridger Bowl Ski Area in the Montana Rockies

Bridger Bowl is a ski area north of Bozeman, Montana with some of the best powder in the state. It is mostly visited by locals and students that attend Montana State University, but is a great choice for any vacationer.

Tear into the fresh pow at Bridger Bowl in Montana.

The ski area is consistently rated as one of the best ski areas for its value. The skiing and boarding is excellent and the Montana accommodations are perfect for winter getaways.

In the Bridger Range of the Rockies, this ski area in southern Montana is locally owned and is a non-profit ski area. It has outstanding snowfall, but lacks the crowds that the resorts south of Bozeman draw (like Moonlight Basin and Big Sky).

Both the mountain range and the ski resort take their name from the noted mountain man, Jim Bridger.

The area now has three lodges, the latest of which was constructed in 2005. During the 2008/2009 ski season, Bridger Bowl opened the Schlasman chairlift, which was the first lift-served terrain expansion it has made in 30 years.

The Schlasman lift goes up 1,700 feet and adds 311 acres- but for experts only. To ride the lift you must have an avalanche transceiver. Partners and shovels are also highly recommended.

Another popular expert-only area is Bridger’s Ridge, which supplies advanced riders with an intense wall of chutes, snowfields, cliffbands and glade terrain.

Bridger Bowl also has a dedicated beginner area with an easy chairlift for first-timers.

The mountain has 75 runs in total and eight lifts, including one quad, two triples and five doubles. The base of the mountain is at 6,100 feet and the peak rises to 8,700 feet. Bridger does not yet have a terrain park.

The average snowfall is a staggering 350 inches, beating out many big name Rockies resorts!

To reach Bridger Bowl, head north of Bozeman about 20 minutes on US 86, which is easily accessed off Interstate 90. The ski area is also only 1.5 hours from Yellowstone National Park and 30 minutes from Gallatin Field Airport. Fly Delta, Horizon, United, Northwest, or Frontier airline to reach Bozemen. Rent a car or take the free weekend shuttle from Bozeman to Bridger Bowl.
