Montana Ski Vacations

Montana skiing at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Montana skiing at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

I’ve met a number of people who give me funny looks when I mention that it’s possible to ski Montana. When you mention skiing or snowboarding in the U.S. people think of Colorado. In Canada, they picture Alberta or British Columbia.

But Montana, my friends, has some seriously good skiing. They get large amounts of snow, often in excess of 300″ per year at some of the Montana ski resorts.

Check out this Montana ski guide for more info on the many resorts the state offers.

I’m amazed at the number of avid skiers that have never even heard of great Montana resorts like Big Sky, Whitefish Mountain Resort or Bridger Bowl.

These resorts allow for out-of-bounds skiing, a totally legal way to get the ultimate powder snow high in Montana.

Another bonus in Montana is that the elevations are much lower here than in other states. This means that your body won’t have to adjust to high altitudes. At the same time, several of Montana’s ski resorts a large vertical drop, and Montana, by being up north, gets some cold weather. This means you’ll still have the long runs and great snow you’d expect at other resorts.

On top of that, resorts here offer up great Montana hotels and lodging, so you can still get you nice cozy digs to relax in after a day on the hill. So what more do you need? Come on out to Montana and take a terrific ski vacation.
