Echo Mountain Park is Colorado’s newest and cheapest ski area and is just 35 miles out of Denver! This mini ski mountain is the ideal place for a short weekend away to discover your freestyle self. Stay in the nearby Echo Mountain lodging for a true escape from the city!
We here at Rockies.com have researched a few things to do in the Front Range area, including the skiing. Enjoy!
Ski Echo Mountain
Sign up for lessons at their school to learn to ski or snowboard or unleash some sick tricks on their terrain parks. Sure, Echo’s small, but it has something for everyone.
They have expanded their glades and terrain parks recently, and with their prices so cheap, there’s really no reason not to check them out. Their prices are so good, in fact, that Westword magazine named them “Best Ski Deal” in 2009. Season passes are just $249 with no restrictions or blackout dates!
Buffalo Bill Cody Museum and Grave
The Buffalo Bill Cody Museum and Grave are in nearby Golden, Colorado. History buffs will love the museum dedicated to the area legend! It’s located at Lookout Point, which is aptly named as it overlooks Denver and the plains. Pay your respects at his grave and learn about his Wild West Show that toured the country for nearly 30 years. The museum can be reached at (303) 526-0747.
The Colorado Railroad Museum
This museum is also in nearby Golden and has lots of eye candy for train buffs. A meticulously detailed model train will chug down its track if you enter a coin, and you can climb around some huge locomotives outside of the museum. Call 1-800-365-6263 for more information.
Indian Hot Springs
This old hot springs area has indoor private baths, a swimming pool, outdoor Jacuzzis, mud baths and unique geothermal caves. The caves are separated for the sexes, and have their own steaming hot springs pools. The pools are a shocking 104-112 degrees and the air is about 90 degrees in the caves, but it’s worth it, if just for a bit.
Coors Brewery Tour
After those really steamy hot springs, you’ll want a cool beverage. Take the tour at Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, where they make their beer from Rocky Mountain water and high country barley. Shuttles will take you from downtown to the brewery for the free forty-minute tour. The line can be a bit long in the summer, but at the end you’ll be rewarded with free beer! Call (303) 277-BEER for more information.
Phoenix Gold Mine
The Phoenix Gold Mine tour is known as the best mine tour in the Front Range. Located just outside of Idaho Springs on Trail Creek Road, they actually give you a hard hat and lead you to a working gold mine. After you can pan for gold in a nearby stream, and most importantly, keep what you find! Call (303) 567-0422 for more information.
