Over a million and a half people can’t be wrong about Breckenridge. The huge influx of people floods Breckenridge lodging in this 2,000 person town annually in the winter, when skiing is sublime in the Rocky Mountains.

But skiing is just one of the things to do in Breckenridge, Colorado. Off the slopes, other tourist attractions include strolling around their small downtown to check out some of the historic buildings that were constructed in the 1800s during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush.
The nearby Blue River was extremely rich in the precious metal. In fact, some experts estimate over 34 tons of gold was extracted from the area. Nowadays the Blue River is a great place to fly fish for a tasty trout.
Now that the gold rush is over, the mines and several villages in the area were abandoned by the gold rushers. Take a Jeep tour to explore these interesting ghost towns and mines.
The Breckenridge Nordic Center is where to go for a day of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Their well-marked paths run along the Ten Mile Range and Breckenridge Ski Resort. Another family friendly activity is a visit to the Steven C. West Ice Area where they have ice skates rentals for everybody at very reasonable prices.
Cycling enthusiasts should pack their bikes because Summit County has paved a system of trails between Breckenridge and other area towns. And don’t forget your helmet, it’s a bit of a challenging ride and we wouldn’t want anyone to get hurt.
Nearby Lake Dillon offers summer fun in the form of world-class sailing, boat rentals, sailing instruction and racing regattas. At 9,000 feet, it is the home to the highest yacht club in North America! Stay on the lake to try your hand at fishing, or wander up one of the three rivers that feed the lake; the Blue River, Ten Mile Creek and Snake River.
Take the ski lift up to hiking trails in the summer and be rewarded with an expansive view of the Colorado Rockies. At lower elevations, play a round of golf at the world’s only town golf course that has been designed by the legendary pro golfer Jack Nicklaus.
As the home to a world-class ski resort, this Rockies town also has a wide array of luxury lodging options, health clubs and spas and gourmet restaurants.
Don’t miss the Ullr Fest, a annual celebration for the Nordic god of snow, or the winter snow sculpture contest. Breckenridge also hosts a music festival and a film festival in the summer.
