Echo Mountain is known as “Denver’s closest, cheapest, and freshest” ski area. Located in Idaho Springs, this tiny ski resort is just 35 miles out of downtown Denver.
Echo Mountain attractions include braving the glades and Echo Mountain lodging is as affordable as their lift tickets, sometimes even coming as a package deal!
This is not your average ski resort. The mountain is dedicated to unleashing your inner freestyle self. Let the purity of their terrain parks, glades and runs inspire you.
As far as their claim to be the cheapest, it seems quite plausible. They were named “Best Ski Deal” by Westword magazine and had season passes listed on their web site as $249 with no black out dates or restrictions for their 2009/2010 season.
And Echo is so fresh because it is the newest ski resort in the Colorado Rockies. So far, there are only 15 trails on 85 acres, but their contemporary grounds are continually being expanded and improved. They are opening more glades each year and have a redesigned learning area.
Throughout the season, Echo hosts events and competitions for amateurs and professionals. The mountain also offers 12 hours of skiing and riding Wednesday-Saturday and killer views of the Front Range from the outdoor plaza.
It’s also cool to know that Echo is doing everything possible to preserve the beauty and environment in the area. They use the most up-to-date water saving devices throughout the facility, and tree cutting has been kept to a minimum, strictly adhering to Forest Service guidelines.
Sure, they’ve only got three lifts, but you can be on the snow just an hour after leaving Denver! Perfect for those short weekends that just beg for some slope time!
Other area activities include shopping and dining in quaint Idaho Springs or visiting the hot springs in the area. The Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum and Grave and the Coors Brewery is also nearby in Golden, Colorado.
