WATERTON, Alberta (Rockies.com) - Waterton Lakes National Park is one of Canada´s premier mountain parks and also popular as a starting point for other Rockies destinations such as Glacier National Park in the United States.
Waterton is nestled in the southwest corner of Alberta province and is about a three hour drive from Calgary. In 1932, the first International Peace Park was created from Waterton and neighboring Glacial National Park in Montana. The creation of the park symbolizes the friendly relations between the United States and Canada. Both of the parks are also recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The park is home to a flourishing network of wildlife and breathtaking mountain scenery. Towering mountain peaks, flower-lined prairies and pristine mountain lakes make Waterton an ideal getaway location for all travelers.
