LAKE LOUISE, Alberta (Rockies.com) - The Lake Louise area of Banff National Park is known not only as Canada´s "Diamond in the Wilderness," but also the "Hiking Capital of Canada." With excellent downhill skiing locations and plentiful hiking and walking trails, Lake Louise is an outdoor lover´s paradise. The region is full of dazzling Canadian Rocky scenery, from glaciers to waterfalls.

Lake Louise has a remote location and those who are accustomed to city dwelling should take note of this. The village is one of the last civilization outposts in the Canadian Rockies before heading to Alaska. If you are expecting the flourishing nightlife of Aspen or Vail, Lake Louise may be a bit of a surprise to you. However, if you are an avid skier, this is where you will find the best powder in North America. Lake Louise is 57 km (35 miles) west from the town of Banff and offers excellent travel amenities, outstanding dining options and comfortable accommodation.
