CANMORE, Alberta (Rockies.com) – Canmore is one of the great small-town tourist destinations in the Canadian Rockies, and getting to it is easy.

The town is located just outside the entrance to Banff National Park on Highway 1, the Trans-Canada Highway. It’s an easy drive west from Calgary, about 106 kilometers (66 miles) and all of it on a divided double-lane highway that runs through prairies, foothills and finally into the Canadian Rockies.

On this route heading west, in fact, Canmore is the first town you’ll come to in the Rockies. Three exits from the highway will leave you in Canmore. It has just the right size and accessibility for the perfect, get-away-from-everything vacation that’s easy and affordable.

Renting a car is convenient at Calgary International Airport, and at all of the airports servicing Edmonton, some three hours’ drive further away.

If you’d rather take a shuttle, Sundog Transportation and Tours will be glad to accommodate you. Shuttles run from both Calgary’s and Edmonton’s airports to Canmore, Banff, and many other locations in the Canadian Rockies.
