Where to Watch English Premier League Football in Banff

Where to Watch English Premier League Football in Banff

Banff National Park, Alberta

Out of all the places in the world I have hung my hat and called home, Banff is the one place that really caters for the person who loves their European sports. Usually watching a live match from the UK or Europe means huddling around a tiny laptop and watching still images of a player. Whether you are looking to watch a cricket, rugby or football match, believe it or not the small and beautiful mountain town of Banff has several great options to please all.

Just because you are on holiday, it doesn't mean you have to give up watching the beautiful game.

1) The Pump and Tap – downstairs in the Sundance Mall

A comfortable winner for many reasons. I feel this is such a comfortable winner that I don’t even have to use full sentences. Cheapest beer in town (bar the hostels-excuse the pun). The staff in the Pump know that sports fans from the UK, Ireland and Europe take their sports seriously and they respond by being very professional with their organisation. Print outs are made every week with a very exact schedule of the games whether they be live or delayed. It is dark, underground, the staff are relatively grumpy – just like home!

2) St. James’ Gate – Wolf Street

They do play English and Scottish football games but I am afraid they are not quite as professional as the Pump when it comes to the organisation. Saturday afternoon is your best chance to catch a game and it is not too much of a risk considering the Pump is only a short hop away. The beer aint cheap in here but it is a great pub to enjoy a few beers and a lot less trashy than its neighbour.

3) Beaver Pub – Samesun Hostel

Full of people who live in the hostel which makes the atmosphere great. If the times work for you and you want to watch the games live and get drunk during the day then this is your best option!

Banff is a strange kind of place. It has the most beautiful scenery and unique wildlife around but it also caters for those who just can’t leave the home comforts behind such as watching their football team lose again!
