The Stoney Nakoda Casino is only a short drive from either Calgary or Banff and Canmore. On Fridays and Saturdays there are free shuttle buses from these little Canadian Rockies towns that drop you practically all the way to the roulette table and then drops you home for free thank goodness! As well as having a really spacious and friendly casino, they also have some great cheap accommodations so you don’t have to worry about getting home to Banff when you are on a winning streak!

For some reason, my expectations were that this casino was going to be a dirty sort of run down place with dogs barking as you enter but I was badly mistaken. It is Alberta’s newest casino and it is immaculate. As soon as I managed to lift my head from the blackjack table – which took a while and an investment – I noticed just how beautiful the actual building was. The croupiers and waiting staff were friendly as could be to the customers doing their best to win ‘that one big hand’!
The Stoney Nakoda is far more than just a casino. It has some great dining options and excellent promotions such as the ski and stay which dramatically reduces costs on the ski hills – especially if you are winning at poker. The hotel is sparkling and also one of the cheapest you will find anywhere in Calgary, Banff or Canmore. There are literally tons of activities to do in the Rockies but the Stoney Nakoda Lodge has got to be one of the most unique and fun ways of spending a weekend evening!
